Technology

Integrated Technology Package 

Because PowerFilm® integrated solar panels (thin film on plastic) are developed and manufactured with a proprietary roll process, they are truly rollable unlike other thin film technologies that are only somewhat flexible. PowerFilm® solar panels are all monolithically integrated which eliminates the need for damage-prone manual connections of individual solar cells. PowerFilm® is made of silicon, a natural resource in abundant supply, and is Cadmium Free, unlike some other solar technologies. Modules perform well in diverse environments, including hot sun, and do not suffer from wasted over-voltage. 

Ultra Rollable 

PowerFilm® products are ultra rollable because they are manufactured on a roll up to 2400 feet long, using the proprietary roll-to-roll manufacturing technology platform of Iowa Thin Film Technologies. Iowa Thin Film Technologies is the first and only company in the world selling solar products manufactured on a true roll-to-roll process using a plastic substrate. 

Durable 

PowerFilm® products are monolithically integrated which eliminates the need for damage-prone manual connections of individual solar cells. Modules are constructed using a durable polymer (plastic) substrate. 

Easily Integrated 

Several features enable easy integration: Paper thin low profile; Ultra flexibility allows conformity to shapes; Complete product design eliminates need for unsightly bolt-on frames. 

Fabric Integrated 

Integrated with a fabric backing for enhanced product functionality. 

Lightweight 

Constructed using a proprietary combination of thin and lightweight materials. 

Environmentally Friendly Profile 

Cadmium Free! (Other solar technologies such as CIS, CIGS, and CdTe contain cadmium which is considered an extremely toxic metal by the Department of Labor.) If comparing products, check to be sure they are Cadmium Free. Primary element used in PowerFilm® is silicon, a natural resource in abundant supply.

Indicated below are examples of average run and charge times for common uses for PowerFilm® Rollable Solar Panels. For example, an average 12V fish finder consumes 0.83 Amps per hour. With the R-7, a typical day with five hours of full sun will allow the fish finder to run for 2.8 hours and the R-21 would allow the fish finder to run for 8.3 hours.

Instructions for Use: 

  01.  

Unroll and place so solar panel (dark side) is face up with orientation to sun.

  02.  

With the grommets on each of the corners, use a tie cord to hold the panel in place. This is important to reduce loss or damage from high winds.

  03.  

Ensure the solar panel cord out of the junction box is well connected to the included 15 ft. extension cord. (Fig. 1)

  04.  

Identify the correct polarity! (Red +, Black -)

  05.  

Attach the o-ring battery terminal connectors at the end of the extension cord to your 12 volt battery or the 12 volt device you are directly powering. (Fig. 2)

  06.  

You may leave the panel permanently connected to your battery since there is an included blocking diode in the junction box that blocks reverse draining of current from your battery. As with any permanent connection to a battery, safely clean the connections on a periodic basis as needed.

  07.  

To store the product, simply disconnect the cords and roll with the SOLAR PANEL FACING OUT. Use the attached Velcro® strip to hold the roll in place.

Charging Electronics

The internal batteries of your wireless electronics can be charged by connecting the PowerFilm® Rollable Solar Panel to your device's 12V cigarette lighter adapter. The RA-2 Female Cigarette Lighter Adapter is required for your solar panel.

 Battery Charging Made Simple

Now choose the optimal PowerFilm® Rollable Solar Panel to use with your selected battery charger pack. Also you can use the RA-6 Daisy Chain Accessory to connect 2 rollable solar panels together for greater power.
